Lunchtime Workout

A good jaunt to the gym today, though it was hard to give myself permission to go b/c work is picking up again. I knew I wouldn’t have any evening time though…well…most of this week.
So today I did something different.  20 minutes of cardio and then 20 minutes of assisted chin-ups, back exercises, ab exercises, chest presses, and this crazy tricep exercise where you bend the dumbell back over your head while lifting alternating legs.  Essentially you are balancing on one foot while doing tricep exercises.  It’s hard!
I don’t know what the best plan is for me anymore.  I know I should be getting 90 minutes of exercise a week *somehow*.  I know that cardio melts fat, but building muscle helps you do it more effectively.  I’ve been advised to do cardio 3x a week and weights 2x.  But for how long?  As long as possible is what I aim for.  In other words, 30 mins of both is ideal but usually not feasible.
I like doing cardio b/c I can see exactly how many calories I burned.  It makes me feel like I have achieved a measurable success.  But I know I need to keep the weights up too.  I am debating about hiring an online personal trainer (far cheaper than the ones at the gym!) just to help me figure it all out.
Unless there’s a Fitness for Dummies kind of book anyone would like to recommend?
